The impossible

Tissues in hand, this film took me on a roller coaster of emotions which lead me to tears on several  occasions. The music, editing and acting were in a different class enabling you to feel that are apart of this natural disaster. A true story based on one families experience through the tsunami that hit south Asia in 2004, Ewan Mcgregor and Naomi Watts play the parents of 3 boys who are all swept away in different directions. Through the tears you cannot ignore the spectacular mise en scene which enhances every aspect of this piece. The music switches from silence under water to only hearing the debris hitting the character as they struggle to resurface under the fast paced current. Point of view shots using a hand held camera transforms you into the position of the people suffering the pain as well as crane shots which shows you the sheer magnitude of the destruction.

Overall the film highlights the physical and emotional terror this family suffers in the attempt to reunite. The cinematography helps bring all the elements together to not only to appreciate the extent of this event but also to pull at your heart strings.

Let's not beat around the bush. The two main reasons I ventured out to see this film was 1. The great cast lineup 2. The beautiful man that is Gerard Butler.
This light hearted piece brings together issues of love, money and father son bonding whilst keeping you laughing. I did enjoy Bulters performance as an ex pro footballer who wants to be apart of his sons life again, however the main thing that caught my attention was the towel scene with his top half on show and hearing his native accent ;).With the cast line up including Dennis Quaid,Uma Thurman and Catherine Zeta-Jones I expected great one liners and to be blown away, however I was disappointed by the cliche characters and the lack of personality. You cannot help but fall in love with Lewis who is played by cute Noah Lomax, where he looks at his dad with his puppy dog eyes!

Overall a cheerful film which was a nice first watch but I don't think I would watch again unless I had it on in the background during a girlie catch up.

Hello 2013

Hi I'm Eilish :)
So a new years resolution of mine is to start blogging my reviews on the new film releases throughout 2013. After studying film and media at A-levels my passion for film has grown stronger over the years!!
My film taste changes day in day out which I love because it means I'm willing to try lots of different genres. To be honest a good old romance will never fail to entice me ;)
So I've never blogged like this before so let's see how this goes. I'm going to review my honest opinion which might be conventional but hey no :)

So give me a chance and let me know what you think
Happy film watching
Love
